The incident caused the temporary shutdown of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park.

Two individuals are now facing charges following a suitcase robbery where a substance thought to be irritant spray led to people being hurt at the UK's busiest airport.

Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, are accused of two robbery charges and charges for using a harmful chemical, as confirmed by court officials.

The charges follow an investigation into an assault at the multi-storey car park at Terminal 3 on Sunday. Earlier that day, two women were robbed of their luggage taken after getting out of a car park lift, police said.

A young child was one of the people hurt during the incident. A total of five individuals went to hospital for treatment and were eventually allowed to go home.

The incident – described by police as was isolated and deemed non-terroristic – resulted in train delays and the temporary blocking of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 parking area for a limited duration.
