Championship leader the Australian driver has disclosed he learned "important insights on managing risks" following his disappointing weekend at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The Australian racer experienced a first-lap retirement after an early start that dropped him to the rear of the grid. This incident came after further troubles during the qualifying session and practice runs.
Teammate Lando Norris closed the distance in the title fight to just 25 points, while the Dutch champion Verstappen sits 69 points back heading into this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix following winning both in the previous two races.
"We cannot afford weekends like Baku and we recognize those outcomes are not sustainable," Piastri stated.
"Personally, I encountered challenging takeaways but as a collective we identified several opportunities to improve our approach. This realization proves vitally important."

Piastri conceded he had "over-extended" during Azerbaijan qualifying and recognized the lap one crash was "difficult to quickly analyze considering the start-line situation".
"These events delivered valuable insights about enhancing my reaction and fundamentally educated me about risk evaluation," he continued. "Nothing dramatic are necessary or will be implemented."
"Across 16 of the 17 race weekends, my approach has worked well. By concentrating on what has succeeded, good outcomes will persist. No major overhaul - I'm just attributing it to mistakes."
Title Fight Intensifies
Lando Norris stated that Max Verstappen "truly constitutes a title contender" with seven events left, echoing sentiments previously expressed by McLaren team principal Andrea Stella.
Verstappen's recent victory marked his fourth of the 2024 campaign, while the Australian has taken seven wins and Norris has achieved five triumphs.
Norris emphasized that the Red Bull competitor had consistently posed a bigger threat to the team than widely recognized.
"Reflecting to the season's beginning, they were competing with us during the initial six races, fighting over the individual title," he detailed. "After introducing development updates, we made improvements."
"Recently, their developments have seemingly restored parity. We still enter each race with victory intentions and leadership goals."
"The competition including Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull have become increasingly competitive lately, so we expect close fights, especially against these opponents."

The British team are virtually assured to claim the team title this Singapore round - they will officially secure the crown provided Mercedes fail to surpass them by 31 points, or the Italian squad by 35 points.
