The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
