Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his position after another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's worst streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from above,” Slot stated.
“It's important to change things and get a victory naturally but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted familiar weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell like this with performances so bad.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And until it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to its rightful place, prove once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
