The January recruitment period is typically a period of intense speculation and possible big-money moves. Numerous notable players are being connected to transfers away from their present clubs. Here is a look at a selection of the key figures who could be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite Ghana's inability to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, this has kept the player available, reports suggest a significant move is imminent. This Bournemouth attacker has a deal with a sizeable buy-out clause active for a two-week period in early January. Recent reports point to Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his signature. Former interested parties like Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have moved on to other options, potentially opening the door for teams like Liverpool or Manchester United to attempt a last-minute bid.

Marc Guéhi

The English centre-back has excel for Crystal Palace this season a summer transfer to Liverpool falling through. With his contract due to run out in the summer, January is the London club's final chance to secure a fee for their captain. A host of top sides, including Manchester City and multiple European giants including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly hold an interest. Yet, a winter departure is considered unlikely, especially given the manager's dependence on the player.

Furthermore, there have been rumours from Spain that he is prepared to take a reduced salary for a move to Real Madrid.

This veteran Germany goalkeeper finds himself as the third option at Barça following new manager Flick. After fallen out of favour and had an operation, a January exit looks increasingly likely. Villa were once linked as a possible suitor, but that option now appears off. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing interest in the 33-year-old.

The prolific English striker has kept scoring regularly in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League could enhance his fading hopes of being in the national World Cup. After starring at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has broken into the AZ first team. This teenager is heavily tipped to complete a major transfer in January.
