President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the White House.

He added that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.

US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a violent incident on Wednesday in DC.

Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Memorials across the state have taken place in their remembrance.

The commander-in-chief said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president informed journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Attendees gathered over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.

Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to support law enforcement in the capital.

“Sarah was the individual that instructors desired. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her former high school, told the press. “She was caring, caring and always ready to support those in need.”

Funeral arrangements for Beckstrom are still being arranged.

Authorities have charged a 29-year-old suspect with one count of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.

The incident caused the government to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.

The airman, a resident of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the news agency.

He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor the governor said on television.

Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with excellence, as stated by the military.

“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had courage,” he informed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
