Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Initiating Derogatory Chants About Manager Chris Wilder

The striker is now a member of the Championship side just seven months after leading derogatory chants directed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

This experienced forward, without a club after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a deal joining the Championship strugglers until January. Bamford's seven-year time with Leeds finished by mutual consent this past summer.

Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting offensive songs about Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party in April. Now, the former England international will be playing for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to rescue the team he loves out of the drop zone.

Past History Between Bamford and the Manager

The pair had history prior to Leeds moved up back to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as a "muppet" when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends and Looking Ahead

Everything appears to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement up front while Bamford looking to rejuvenate his career.

The song about Wilder gained traction this spring. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Chris Wilder commented at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I have no problem at all with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow pro! However I valued and respected him giving me a call.

“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel too and we had a longer discussion with him and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we used to give it and accept it and that is an integral part of the game across all levels, even on Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”

Latest Career Struggles

The forward featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United last season however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
