Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
