Citizens have assembled throughout the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-conducted attack on 7 October 2023, as talks advanced in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the war in Gaza.

The incident resulted in in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the single most lethal day for Jews since the Second World War.

Israel responded by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are regarded as reliable by the UN and other international bodies.

"Our violent adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," the prime minister remarked on that day.

He also promised to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer create a threat to Israel".

Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government postponed formal memorials until October 16th - after the completion of the festive season - but gatherings still were held across the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of people killed in the Hamas incident was held in the coastal city. Organized by the families themselves, it was aired across Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a minute's silence was respected across the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas representatives gathered in the North African Red Sea resort of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of indirect talks to review the provisions of the agreement.

A prominent representative familiar with the negotiations said that an late session of indirect talks began at 19:00 Cairo time.

The representative explained the day's discussions finished without tangible results, because of differences over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not restart combat after the initial stage of the deal.

He noted that the discussions are "challenging and have still not achieve any major advancement," but noted that facilitators are striving to close the gaps between the conflicting groups.

Essential Issues in Talks

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The trade of the captives still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid provision
  • Future administration of the area

Public Feeling

In Tel Aviv's public square earlier, 29-year-old a woman - whose brother survived the assault on the outdoor event, where hundreds were lost their lives and numerous more were abducted by Hamas militants - shared: "No place appears as home now and until all the hostages come back not a single person will be secure."

"Once we see all home returned, we can breathe again. Then we can start to heal," she added.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in the capital, people congregated to demonstrate their solidarity for the families of the captives. Israel states 48 stay in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be surviving.

Protester a participant remarked: "We need do every compromise needed for the hostages to come back home. But we truly desire assurances that we will be protected."

Research now consistently show that about 70% of Israelis desire the hostilities to conclude in return for the release of the abducted.

Palestinian Conditions

At the location of the gathering, grieving people came together to remember the victims.

From there, the boom of military attacks and artillery could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where local people said the intense Israeli bombardment continued.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were noted in the morning of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, area and zone areas and in the eastern district of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"As the dusk comes, the anxiety appears with it," relocated urban resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was killed by an Israeli bombing earlier, explained.

"My family are terrified of the attacks. All the night we are sleeping together, clinging, particularly my little child who rests his face on me the entire evening."

"Constantly we monitor the news to see developments. And I'm concerned that this halt will not be completed and that the fighting will return to us."

Medical Crisis

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area announced it had taken in the bodies of several people by the daytime, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the southern urban center of Khan Younis indicated another two dead people had been transported. One of them was killed by Israeli troops while seeking assistance to the south, medics reported.

The region's health ministry announced 25 of the {territ
