Could the Undefeated Bills and Eagles Fated to Clash in the Championship Game?

This 2025 NFL season has seen two dominant teams keep their flawless records through the first four weeks: the Buffalo Bills and the Philadelphia Eagles. Each teams are undefeated, sparking speculation about a possible title game matchup.

Why This Could Be a 'Storybook Year' for the Bills

Buffalo are led by reigning Most Valuable Player their star quarterback, who keeps to propel the team. Although they've looked stronger to date, Philadelphia have faced a more challenging slate.

Buffalo narrowly defeated the Baltimore Ravens with a last-second kick, followed by decisive victories over the Jets, Dolphins, and Saints.

"This team has evolved in recent seasons," noted a former assistant coach with the Bills. "It's orchestrated by Josh Allen. He truly is the engine."

"The Bills' offensive line is also excellent. It enables James Cook to really be the standout, but what makes these teams so effective is taking care of the ball. Both are doing a really nice job of that."

Both teams have surrendered the ball just once this campaign. The two are set to face off in week 17 at Buffalo's current home in what could be a championship dress rehearsal.

"There's always this part of you that believes, 'let's just stay healthy and watch where this leads', but at times the stars just align," the analyst continued. "Considering it's the farewell tour of Highmark Stadium, I mean, this could be a storybook year for the Bills."

"In the AFC Conference, you're wondering 'who's our main competitor at the moment?'. I feel like the most well-rounded team is the Bills. It's, whether they can sustain this path they're on?"

How Are the Eagles Finding Ways to Win?

Philly supporters are not getting carried away just yet. For one, they are accustomed to winning, having reached two out of the last three Super Bowls and denying the Kansas City Chiefs a third straight title in last season's finale.

Philadelphia have not been at their peak on offense or defense, but every game they typically commit the least giveaways, and the team that wins that statistic usually win the contest.

"They have claimed victory in 20 out of their previous 21 games, and a big factor for that is recording 42 takeaways and just nine turnovers," explained a team reporter. "Their a conservative style of offense."

"Their attack has still not reached projections, but the Eagles are figuring out how to win. They just have a winning DNA. They are winning games in unorthodox ways, so you have to ask, 'is it repeatable is that?' But I think that really underscores how balanced this team is."

The Eagles have beaten the Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, and Buccaneers, but each have been close games.

Tailback Barkley and receiver AJ Brown have had quiet beginnings to the year, but the team's special units have delivered, blocking three straight field goals over the past two games and returning two of them for six points.

"The special teams coordinator, the Eagles' special teams coordinator, is perhaps the top in the business at what he accomplishes," said the analyst.

"On special teams, each season you have a different group of players, compared to offense and defence where there's more continuity. The Eagles have first-string players who play on special units. They have a team-wide buy-in and a personal stake from these players, and they're able to go out there and make plays."

"After I talked to the player [who scored on Sunday], he said that it's distinct in Philadelphia because players on special teams have specific jobs. They approach things a little differently, and that's where you're witness the enthusiasm and the concerted effort they put on that."

The Evolution of the 'Tush Push' Is Changing

Philly's head coach Nick Sirianni pioneered the concept of the 'Brotherly Shove' play, which is a adaptation of the standard quarterback sneak, with players assisting to push the QB in goal-line scenarios.

They have mastered the tactic and even though a group of owners voted for it to be banned in May, it was not enough for the Tush Push to be eliminated.

But, Philly are now running 'decoy push' plays, that initially appear alike but develop into an alternative. A recent play on game day saw Jalen Hurts flip the ball backward for the running back to score a walk-in touchdown.

"Teams are attempting to sell out to stop the shove," said the reporter. "But the plays the Eagles are capable of now run off that, it creates a lot more possibilities and places defences in a tough situation in how to stop it, knowing that you have alternatives on tape to account for."

"I think it's brilliant. It forces you into different game planning," commented the former coach.

"Adding those little wrinkles to the Tush Push, you're keeping teams defensively on their heels. [They're thinking] 'will they really go straight ahead? Could they plan to give to the back? Might it be a passing play?' Truly, this is the genius of the strategies within the NFL."

The Broncos will be the upcoming team that tries to stop the play on this weekend, while Buffalo welcome New England.

"When you get to the fifth week, that's really where you get a clearer idea of what a team's character is on both sides of the ball," the reporter added.

"It's the moment, and it appears that both teams have a strong case for making a lengthy postseason in the playoffs."
